PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a family of thousands of synthetic chemicals known as “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down — not in the environment, and not in your body. They’ve been linked to a growing list of health concerns, which is why regulators are restricting them in everything from drinking water to food packaging.

They’re also, unfortunately, very good at showing up where you’d least expect them. Which brings us to the bathroom.

Some toilet paper does. Studies have detected PFAS in paper products, including toilet paper, where they can hitch a ride through recycled paper content or manufacturing additives. A spooky thing to learn about a product that touches you there, multiple times a day, for your entire life.

Yes — and we didn’t just declare it, we tested it. We sent Bim Bam Boo bamboo toilet paper to Light Labs, an independent ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory, for PFAS analysis. Light Labs tested for 30 different PFAS chemicals and found non of them in Bim Bam Boo toilet paper. The specifics, because specifics are the whole point:

Does bamboo toilet paper have PFAS?
